Story :

Solo is the story of an orphan Gautham (Nara Rohit) whose aim is to get married to a girl with a big joint family. A chance encounter leads him to Vaishnavi (Nisha Aggarwal), who fits all the requirements. Gautham goes on to woo Vaishnavi, who relents after a while.

But Vaishnavi shares a very strong bond with her rich and powerful father Raghupathi Naidu ( Prakash Raj) and family which also comprises of Raghupathi Naidu’s sister (Jayasudha). Will Raghupathi Naidu accept Gautham and his love? That is the rest of the story.

Plus Points :

Nara Rohit puts up a very impressive show. His histrionics are good and he gives a mature and balanced performance. His dance in the first song is pretty good. Nara Rohit is one solid actor to watch out for in future and let us hope he comes up with more movies soon. His voice and diction will win him many admirers.

Nisha Aggarwal is ok as the heroine. She shows promise, but she is still very raw in emotional scenes. A few more movies under the belt and she will come through as a good actress.

Prakash Raj delivers a text book perfect performance as Raghupathi Naidu. These roles have become a cakewalk for him and it is such a joy to watch him on screen. Jayasudha is good in the brief role that she has. Shayaji Shinde is good as the Father in Law from London. Pavitra Lokesh is good as Prakash Raj’s wife.

Srinivas Reddy is top notch in the role of the hero’s friend. He has generated a good comedy track along with M.S.Narayana (Dr. Dharma) and Ali ( Marriage Broker James Cameron). Rao Ramesh and Ranganath make brief appearances.

Emotional scenes have come out well and will connect with the audience. The dialogues are a major asset here (More on that later). Songs have been picturized well. Mumaith Khan sizzles in the item number

Presentation

The director has come up with a thoughtful storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was superb. The dialogues were very good. The script was predictable but the screenplay was impressive. Background score was strong and two songs were impressive. Cinematography was appealing. Editing was a bit jerky, during the second half. Costumes were natural and apt while the art department was rich. Nara Rohit has given a sincere performance but he needs to work on his expressions and body language. Nisha Agarwal is sensuous and does her bit well but she has to work on perfection in emotional scenes. Prakash Raj was powerful. Sayaji Shinde was standard. Srinivas Reddy was excellent, he should be seen more. Jayasudha was natural. Ravu Ramesh was not used to his potential. M S Narayana was moderate. Ali brought few smiles. The others did their bit as required.

Analysis:

Solo film has a simple story. Director Parashuram penned down a solid screenplay to narrate this simple point like his guru Puri Jagannadh. The film’s flow until interval point is smooth. The takeoff is good in the second half too. But the film’s color changes all of a sudden.

Until interval it is an entertaining story with ample fun. When the hero’s character takes a U turn, the mood of the film too has changed big time. Although it is understandable, few may not like the sudden shift. Director should have tried to include some funny characters in the marriage atmosphere without changing the mood of the hero. So that it would have pleased the audiences that look for comedy throughout the film.

On a whole, the mood of the film is alright. This story has to be dealt this way. There is nothing wrong in the approach of the director. Instead of being vocal all the time, he should have tried to show the pain of the protagonist visually. Saying so, we should admit that the dialogues are pretty good.

Solo is being promoted as an entertaining love story. But it is actually an emotional love story blended with some amount of comedy. The makers of the film should immediately focus on the publicity and packaging!

Verdict: Nice emotional treat, watch it!!

Story :

A divine tale, the story begins with King Rama (Nandamuri Balakrishna) returning from Lanka after the successful war along with Seetha (nayantara). He is crowned as the king of Ayodhya and to add to the happiness, Seetha becomes pregnant. However, a chance incident of a washerman Tippadu (brahmi) suspecting his wife's fidelity and questioning how King Rama could take back Seetha after she was there at Ravana's place for a long time becomes a big question. The word spreads in Ayodhya and it reaches the ears of Rama. He reluctantly orders that Seetha must be left in the forest. She is given shelter by Sage Valmiki (ANR). Seetha gives birth to twins Lava-Kusa (master gaurav, master dhanush). They grow up learning the story of Rama and reach Ayodhya entertaining and singing the king's praises. However, when they learn that he deserted his pregnant wife due to public suspicion, they lose that respect. A situation arises when they have to encounter Rama and his armies. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Performance :

The director has come up with a known storyline and while the presentation was marvellous, the narrative was smooth but not engaging at all points. The dialogues were a drawback. The script was written well but the screenplay was average. Background score was very nice and all the songs were impressive. Cinematography was excellent. Editing was a bit jerky, during the second half. Costumes were royal and apt while the art department was rich and extravagant. A special mention should be made about the graphics and visual effects department. Nandamuri Balakrishna comes up with a decent performance and he has that balance in his act. Nayantara was wonderful, she was soft, she was serene and had the right proportion of emotional quotient. Akkineni Nageswara Rao made a strong screen impact. Master Gaurav and Master Dhanush were alright but could have been better. Srikanth was neat. Brahmi was brief. Vindoo Dara Singh fit his role well. The rest of the support cast like K R Vijaya, Murali Mohan, Sana, Sameer, Balayya carried out their role with ease and contributed well.

 Plus Points :

First, the Producer, Director and the lead actors Balakrishna & Nayanatara need to be specially applauded for having the courage to come up with such a project in this day and age. The movie Sri Rama Rajyam has some terrific performances from everyone involved.
Balakrishna looks majestic and regal in the character of Lord Rama. In some scenes, there is a very strong resemblance to his father, Telugu Cinema Legend Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao garu. His histrionics are spot on and he has delivered a fine and balanced performance. His performance in the emotional moments of the film will win applause. He is perhaps the only actor of his generation who can play such mythological roles.
Nayanatara has given what is perhaps her career best performance and she will win many awards for her portrayal of Sita. She is outstanding in emotional scenes and there is an air of divinity about her whenever she is seen on screen. This is a remarkable achievement for an actress who has always maintained a very glamorous profile.
It is easy to understand why Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu is a legend. He has a full length character in the movie as Valmiki and he delivers beautifully. He gives the key scenes of the movie the necessary balance and maturity.
The kids who have played the characters of Lava and Kusha have done a superb job. They have shown a lot of talent in their performance. The fight scenes in the climax have come out really well. It has been a long time since we saw magic arrows flying from both sides sides of the battlefield for a duel. Nostalgic experience.
Bapu is a master artist and you will be reminded of this fact right from frame 1 of the movie. Every frame of the movie looks visually stunning, with a beautiful symphony of colours. The costumes and appearance of Balakrishna and especially Nayanatara are top notch. The songs have been picturized perfectly in typical Bapu style. Special effects and CGI are of a very high quality (More on this in Technical Aspects)
The emotional scenes in the movie have come out really well and the connection with the audience is very strong. It is easy to empathize with the difficulties of Rama and Sita.
Srikanth and Sameer are ok as Lakshmana and Bharatha. K.R.Vijaya is outstanding as Kousalya. Roja is good as Bhoodevi. There are a lot of other prominent actors in the movie in short roles and they have all done well.

Conclusion:

Amidst the horde of commercial mass masala entertainers, this film comes across as a refreshing breath of air with fragrance and divinity. Equipped with high quality visual effects and strong technical values, the film has elevated the standards of film making. While the first half goes about in a smooth manner, the real tempo picks up in the second half. Overall, the film scores high on the presentation and if the hiccups in the narrative and content department were worked, the film would have been a sure shot blockbuster. For now, it will have strong openings and will attract the family audience in good numbers. At the box office, it will land in profit zone.
